baby white-faced saki - Cleveland Zoo av Tim Evanson
A month-old white-faced saki monkey reaches for his first branch.
The Cleveland Zoo welcomed this baby on February 3, 2017. Its gender has not yet been determined.
The white-faced saki is a New World monkey found in far northern Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana. They live about 14 years in the wild, but as long as 35 years in captivity. They are not endangered.
Twelve-year-old Lopez is the mom; she's from Pittsburgh, and this is her first birth. Thirteen-year-old Luis is the dad, and he is from Cleveland. Lopez and Luis are both unrelated to the other 138 white-faced sakis in the 43 American zoos, which means they are highly valued for their genetic diversity.
